Last night a historic decision was made. Donald Trump to stand trial on allegations of campaign finance violations.
Now the ex-president's party colleagues are raging over the indictment.
"Today marks a turning point for our country. The charges against Trump are proof of the death of our rule of law," writes Senator Ted Cruz on Twitter.
For the first time in history, a former US president has been charged with a crime.
During the night of Friday, it became clear that Donald Trump is being charged with crimes in connection with the 2016 election campaign. This is because he is suspected of having paid money to porn star Stormy Daniels from his own campaign fund before the 2016 election.
But the ex-president denies the accusations and is furious about the prosecution.
"This is the worst political persecution and electoral fraud in history," he writes in a statement.
Showing his support for Trump
Several top Republicans are siding with Trump and expressing their support for the former president on social media.
"Today marks a turning point for our country. The charges against Trump are proof of the death of our rule of law. Our ancestors cry. The law must be fair, regardless of which political party you belong to. It is not intended to be used as a weapon to attack one's political enemies," wrote Senator Ted Cruz on Twitter.

"The House of Representatives will hold Alvin Bragg and his unprecedented abuse of power accountable," McCarthy writes on Twitter.
