Former US Vice President Mike Pence must testify about his conversations with former President Donald Trump in the lead-up to the storming of the Capitol. A federal judge has ruled that, according to several sources to CNN.

However, Pence may choose to refrain from recounting his own actions on Jan. 6 until 2021, when he led efforts to verify the results of the presidential election in the Senate.

Pence has the option of appealing the decision, which has not yet been made public, according to the sources.

The French pension protests Fire and tear gas in the streets of France - 740,000 are out

On Tuesday, 740,000 French people went out to protest against the pension reform, according to the government, according to French media. It is the tenth major mass mobilization during the protests.

According to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, a record number of 13,000 police officers have been deployed in the country today, 5,500 of them in the capital, to meet the "great threat to public order".

In Paris, black-clad protesters set fire to garbage cans and throw objects at the police. At least 27 people have been arrested.

Both protesters and human rights groups have accused the police of excessive force, further inflaming the mood.

At the same time, the Paris garbage collectors' union announces that it is ending its strike after tons of trash piled up on the city's streets.

Also elsewhere in France – including in Nantes and Lyon – police and demonstrators have clashed.

The Prime Minister has invited the unions to talks next week.
