Growing internal opposition to Netanyahu's reform
Internal opposition to Benjamin Netnyahu's legal reform appears to be growing, reports Reuters. On Sunday, heavyweight member of parliament Yuli Edelstein from Netanyahu's Likud party backed the demand that the criticized reform be put on hold.
- We don't want to bury the reform, but taking it to a vote before we are sure that we have support is adventurousness that we should avoid, says Edelstein, who, among other things, leads the foreign affairs committee.
The coalition Netanyahu leads has 64 out of 120 seats in parliament, making the margins for voting through the reform relatively small, should Likud members not toe the party line.

Demands for the minister's resignation after criticism of Netanyahu
Far-right Israeli Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to fire Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, the BBC reports. This after Gallant said that Netanyahu should stop the criticized legal reform in the country.
The proposed reform has led to widespread protests in the country as critics say it threatens democracy. On Saturday, the largest single demonstration in the country's history was held, with 300,000 participants, Ekot reports.
In protest against the proposal, military personnel, including fighter pilots and officers, have also refused to report for duty. According to Gallant, the proposal should be put on hold because it threatens the country's security and military capability.

Israel's Defense Minister: The reform must be stopped
Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant wants to stop the government's criticized reform of the judiciary, AP reports.
He becomes the first within Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition to turn against the proposal.
- I do not intend to be a part of this, says Gallant.
The judicial reform will weaken the position of the judiciary in the country. Critics point out that it would curtail democracy and that the reform is mainly added to save Netanyahu, whose political position is threatened by a corruption charge.
Those who advocate the reform believe that Israel's judiciary has destroyed society through its overly liberal values.
