A Russian submarine is believed to have threatened an American ship.
Something that has led to an extensive search operation in the Norwegian Sea.
The search operation has been ongoing in the Norwegian Sea since Sunday, writes Dagbladet.
The submarine is believed to have threatened the US aircraft carrier USS "Gerald R. Ford.
Norwegian, British and American aircraft have been sent to the area, according to The Sun.
The ship, which is the world's largest of its kind, is in the area together with Norwegian forces for an exercise. A defense source describes the exercise as a "very unusual escalation," according to the newspaper.
The defense forces in both Norway and Britain confirm the operation, but otherwise provide no details.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Brynjar Stordal, it is natural for the Russians to monitor when aircraft carrier groups like Gerald R. Ford operate in the northern areas.
- We know that they routinely use both aircraft, surface ships and submarines to monitor, he tells the local newspaper Fremover.
