New York mayoral election
Mamdani's own voters are worried about his young age
Zohran Mamdani could be days away from taking over America's largest city. The 34-year-old has a commanding lead in opinion polls with just two days left until the mayoral election.
However, polls show that there are major doubts even among his own voters, writes the New York Times. Many fear that he is too inexperienced to hold what is usually considered the second most demanding political office in the United States.
- I'm not going to lie. I'm a little nervous. He's very young, Mamdani's voter Steven Ye tells the newspaper.
His opponents Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa have repeatedly attacked Mamdani's lack of experience.
- His resume fits on a coffee napkin, Sliwa said during the final debate.
Protests in Serbia
Huge crowds in Serbia on roof collapse anniversary
Tens of thousands of Serbs gathered in Novi Sad on Saturday on the first anniversary of the deadly roof collapse at the city's train station, AFP reports.
Police said 39,000 people marched, but AFP reporters on the scene and aerial photos put the number closer to 100,000. People have been making the pilgrimage to the city from all over the country for days - by car, by bicycle, on foot and even by tractor.
A 16-minute silence was held for the 16 victims of the accident, which sparked huge student-led protests against the authorities over the past year. The prime minister has resigned and the government has fallen, but President Aleksandar Vucic is still clinging to power.
- It was a murder, not an accident. A murder caused by corruption, neglect and incompetence, says 55-year-old Vesna from Belgrade.
Jeffrey Epstein case
Court sources: The king felt he had no choice
Despite being involved in several media storms, Prince Andrew refused advice from the court on how to handle them. This is what a source with insight tells the Sunday Times.
The article portrays King Charles, after much anguish, finally feeling compelled to publicly remove his hand from his brother Andrew. Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre's posthumous autobiography, which contained details of how Andrew bought sex from her, was the final straw. Among other things, the king's wife Camilla is said to have pushed for Charles to mark.
- It must feel terrible to embarrass your brother. But he [Andrew] has brought disgrace on them all, says a source.
