Venezuelan interim president Delcy Rodríguez says the country is now entering a new era with increased tolerance for political diversity.

She also announced that the release of political prisoners will continue.

- The message is a Venezuela that is entering a new political reality that opens up to understanding despite disagreements and political and ideological differences, Delcy Rodríguez said in a speech at government headquarters in Caracas, Efe reports.

According to Rodríguez, 406 prisoners have been released so far since the release process began in December.

However, the human rights organization Foro Penal, which represents several of those detained legally, states that only about 180 people have been released.

Delcy Rodríguez was vice president under President Nicolás Maduro, who was captured in the US attack on Venezuela on January 3.
