Security in Europe

Frederiksen: Europe must arm itself immediately

Europe needs to immediately strengthen its defense to become less dependent on the United States. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said this during a speech in Paris on Wednesday, AFP reports. The current goal of NATO countries increasing their defense spending by 2035 is not enough, Frederiksen believes.

– Arming now is the absolute most important thing, she said, adding that previous defense cuts in Europe have been a big mistake.

Frederiksen also said that the world order as we know it is over and will not return and that Russia does not want peace, The Guardian reports.

Macron: Greenland is a “wake-up call” for Europe

The Greenland situation is a “strategic wake-up call for all of Europe,” says French President Emmanuel Macron in connection with the Danish Prime Minister and the Greenlandic Prime Minister visiting Paris. AFP reports.

Macron says that Europe must focus, among other things, on asserting European sovereignty and contributing to security in the Arctic.

He also says that France stands in solidarity with Denmark and Greenland, and supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the island.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen says that the United States and Europe must work together to strengthen security in the Arctic.
