Ron DeSantis pulls out - endorses Trump
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis withdraws from the Republican primary and supports Donald Trump as presidential candidate, he announces on X.
- We don't have a clear path to victory [...] It is clear to me that a majority of voters in the primary want to give Trump a second chance, he says.
The announcement comes two days before the New Hampshire primary. A CNN poll on Sunday showed DeSantis at 6 percent in the state, compared to Donald Trump's 50 percent and Nikki Haley's 39 percent.
Haley now remains Trump's only challenger for the Republican nomination.

Analysis: The battle to become Trump's heir is on
The Republican primary is not really about challenging Donald Trump, but about the role of his potential vice president. That's what Alex Isenstadt and Meridith McGraw write in an analytical text for Politico.
A number of hopeful Republicans are struggling to capture his attention - and extra is at stake as a new term as president would be Trump's last, they write.
"Whoever Trump chooses will likely be seen as his future heir."
Trump even seems to have started to make his campaign speeches pure auditions for the role of vice president, write Michael C Bender and Michael Gold for the New York Times.
"His goals are clear: show the breadth of the solid support he has within the Republicans. Project a sense of inevitability around the outcome of the primary. And, of course, see which minion butters him up the most."
However, the role of Trump's vice president is not without risk, Bender and Gold point out, recalling how Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and wanted to hang Mike Pence when he refused to cancel the election results.

Trump dismisses Haley's jab at his cognitive health
Donald Trump denies that he suffers from any cognitive problems, reports The Hill.
It comes a day after he repeatedly confused opponent Nikki Haley and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a campaign speech, prompting Haley to question his mental capacity.
Trump, who also criticized Barack Obama on several occasions during Joe Biden's term, emphasizes that he often uses sarcasm in his statements.
- I often say that President Obama is doing a lousy job, meaning that Obama is the one in charge.
The ex-president also referred again to a cognitive test he recently took, in which, among other things, he must have correctly identified different species of animals.
