Ground Offensive Expert: Risk of infinite chaos
An Israeli ground offensive in Lebanon would mean the "potential for an infinite amount of chaos". That's what Anders Persson, Middle Eastern expert at Linnaeus University, told TT.
He says there are four dangerous factors in a land invasion. The first is that Israel has "bad experiences" with fighting in the area it would enter.
- The second is that Israel would lose much of the tactical advantages of aerial bombing. When it comes to ground fighting, Hezbollah has completely different advantages, he continues.
In addition, there are more far-reaching aspects that come into play, including the fact that winter is approaching in Lebanon and that neither Kamala Harris nor Donald Trump in the United States seem to be in favor of a ground offensive.
The Israeli army chief has called on his soldiers to be ready for a possible invasion. The Pentagon has since said that one does not appear to be imminent.

Netanyahu: Israelis in the north must return home
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he is determined that residents of northern Israel should be able to return to their homes, Reuters reports.
- I cannot go into details about how we are going to do it.
- We have dealt harder blows than Hezbollah could imagine, he continues.
Earlier on Wednesday, the head of the Israeli army hinted that a ground invasion of Lebanon could be imminent.
Israel claims the latest wave of attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon was carried out to end the militia's rocket attacks on northern Israel, which have forced up to 100,000 Israelis to flee their homes.

Sources: US wants peaceful solution - Hezbollah 'open to anything'
The United States has taken the lead in efforts to cool tensions between the Lebanese militia Hezbollah and Israel, six security sources told Reuters.
The work will primarily be done in New York, where the UN General Assembly is gathered. The US wants to reach an agreement where the fighting in both Gaza and Lebanon ends.
One of the Lebanese sources, who is close to Hezbollah, states that the militia is "open to all kinds of settlements".
The US has not commented on the information, but among others Foreign Minister Antony Blinken has spoken about the importance of reaching a peaceful solution.
- Everyone wants security and that everyone should be able to safely return to their homes. The best way to achieve that is not through war, but through diplomacy, he told NBC News.
