The new year in Ukraine began with Russian robot attacks.
The air raid warning sounded for several hours on New Year's Eve - and two explosions occurred in Kyiv.
From balconies, residents shouted “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!”, according to Reuters.
It was not a good new year for the Ukrainian residents yesterday. Russia began the new year by continuing its bombing of Ukraina.
The Reuters news agency reports that the air raid alert sounded for several hours on New Year's Eve after new Russian robot and drone attacks against several Ukrainian cities.
The Ukrainian military says in a statement that it shot down 45 Iranian Shahed drones on New Year's Eve. 32 of them are said to have been shot down after midnight.
Kyiv was rocked by explosions in two of the city's districts, according to Mayor Vitaly Klitschko. On Telegram, he writes that no one should have been injured after the attacks.
“Coldly and cowardly, Russia attacked Ukraine in the early hours of the new year. But Putin still doesn't seem to understand that Ukrainians are made of steel," Bridget Brink, the US ambassador to Ukraine, wrote on Twitter after the attacks.

Celebrated Ukrainian heroes
It was far from a traditional celebration in the capital. As of seven o'clock, a curfew was in place as a safety measure. According to Reuters reporters on the ground in Ukraine, several people shouted “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!” from their balconies.

On Saturday, Zelenskyi spoke about the past year in a New Year's address to the nation.
- We are fighting and we will continue to fight, he said according to TT.
In the emotional speech, he also paid tribute to the people of Ukraine.
- I want to say to all of you: Ukrainians, you are incredible. See what we've done and what we're doing.
In the neighboring country, President Vladimir Putin also chose to deliver a New Year's speech that was shown on state television.
He also sent a boot to Ukraine and the countries in the West and emphasized that Russia will continue its war in the country.
- The West lied about peace, but prepared for aggression. Today they openly admit it. Cynically, they are using Ukraine and its people to weaken and divide Russia.
