Two hundred sixty three people have been killed on the road and 1,938 injured during the five-day New Year holidays, said chief of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Boontham Lertsukhikasem on Tuesday. Speeding, he said, is the major cause of road accidents.
In one case on Monday a whole family of five was killed inside a car in Si Sa Ket province when the driver of another vehicle from another side of the road lost control, hit a motorcycle in front, before crossing to the other side and landed of top of the victims' car. The driver admits he drank half a bottle of white liquor the night before and another shot before he drove - without a license.

UPDATE: Seventeen more hospital staff involved in a New Year drinking party on Dec 30 at a private hospital in Ayutthaya have been suspended and the young female nurse who was caught on a video clip which went viral wearing uniform while drinking at hospital and earlier suspended has resigned. The nurse was a new graduate and has been working at the hospital for just a year.
Chatcharin Pinsuwan, director of Rajthanee Hospital, apologized to the public on Tuesday. Drinking at government offices or medical facilites is against Alcohol Act and is subject to a maximum imprisonment term of one month or fine of up to 10,000 baht or both. #Thailand #WhatsHappeningInThailand #KE
