Expert: The visit to Moscow was never about the war  

 

The Moscow summit was never about ending Russia's war in Ukraine. That's what Alex Korolev, who researches the Russia-China relationship at the University of New South Wales in Australia, told SvD. 

 

- China has no interest in being a mediator in this conflict. The euphoria in the West that China would mediate a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis is not justified, he says.  

 

Putin's focus has also been to find a new market to sell gas to with the sanctions against Russia, writes Politico. According to Jade McGlynn, Russia expert at King's College in London, it is unclear what was actually agreed upon, but that it is clear that China has the upper hand.
