Ukrainian Air Force: A Russian attack like no other
The night's wave of Russian attacks "is like nothing I can remember seeing before," said Jury Ihnat, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, on Ukrainian television, according to CNN.
- This attack was very large-scale and for the first time these different types of robots were used, says Ihnat referring to the X-22 and Kinzhal robots, which he adds that the Ukrainian air defense cannot shoot down.
According to Ukraine, a total of 81 robots – of various makes – and eight Iranian drones were fired at ten regions. The targets were, among other things, energy facilities and residential buildings.
At least six people were killed.
Among other things, the attacks knocked out the electricity, water and heat supply in large parts of the two largest cities, Kyiv and Kharkiv. The Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant also lost power for the sixth time since the invasion.
According to the Kremlin, the attacks were in retaliation for an alleged incursion by Ukrainian "saboteurs" in the Russian region of Bryansk earlier this week, which Ukraine has denied.

Russia: Robot wave revenge for border incursions
The night's massive Russian robot attack against Ukraine was intended as revenge for an event last week, Russia says according to TT. In the incident that Russia refers to, armed Russian neo-Nazis are said to have escaped from Ukraine. On the Russian side, they are said to have captured one or two villages.
There, they are said to have then filmed themselves and proclaimed themselves as Russians who want to liberate their countrymen. The group goes by the name of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) and is formed by outspoken neo-Nazis. RDK claims to have fought on Ukraine's side against Russia since 2014.
However, much is unclear about both the group and the action. The Kremlin has linked the group to Ukraine's military or intelligence services, something Ukraine flatly denies. Kyiv instead states that the whole thing is a Russian provocation so that the Kremlin can justify the war in front of domestic opinion.

The UN warns about Zaporizhzhya: "The fortunes will turn"
The UN's head of nuclear energy, Rafael Grossi, warns again of the danger posed by the repeated power outages at the Ukrainian nuclear power plant Zaporizhzhya, reports AFP.
- Every time we roll the dice. If this is allowed to continue, the fortunes will turn one day, he says.
The power plant lost power after last night's Russian robot attacks and is now powered by backup generators. It is the sixth time it has happened since Russia invaded.
Zaporizhzhya has been under Russian control since early in the war.
