The sun rose at the head of Phra Sri Muang Thong, Ang Thong Province, central Thailand, on this morning, which is the March equinox.
The spring equinox, usually around March 21, and the autumnal equinox, a date in the fall of the year usually around September 23, are the days when earth experiences 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness.
People will be able to see the sunrise through the head of the reclining Buddha image until March 24, after which the sun will rise on a normal cycle.
Wat Khun Inthapramun is ancient temple that was constructed during the Sukhothai period, its vast size still outlined by brick ruins. The largest and longest reclining Buddha statue in Thailand, 50 meters from topknot to feet, is enshrined here.
