The changes in the Catholic Church
The Pope gives women the right to vote at a large church meeting this autumn
Pope Francis has decided to give women the right to vote at a synod of bishops taking place in the Vatican this fall and next year. This is reported by AP. According to the news agency, this is the first time this has happened after decades of demands that women also be allowed to vote.
Synods of bishops act as advisory bodies to the Pope. In addition to bishops, other representatives of the Catholic Church will participate in the meeting and, among other things, five priests and as many nuns will be invited.
In addition, 70 young people who are not bishops are welcomed and Francis has said that half of them should be women.
