Analysis: Europe will not trust Biden after Trump
Europe's trust in the United States was damaged during the Trump years, and Joe Biden has not been able to fully repair the damage during this term, writes CNN's Luke McGee in an analysis. Nor, when it is now clear that Biden is running for re-election next year, do the Europeans expect a big reunion, according to McGee.
He writes that Europe must continue to find its own way for two reasons. One is precisely Donald Trump: If someone like him can take power once, it can happen again. The second is the ties to China, which Europe does not want to cut as hard as the United States.
Politico's Suzanne Lynch writes that the "personal chemistry" in the transatlantic alliance is on the ballot in 2024. It is not only a new term in the White House, but also in the EU Parliament. It is unclear whether Ursula von der Leyen will run again.
"The two leaders have forged strong bonds during their time together in power, despite persistent friction between the US and Europe over everything from tariffs to subsidies and security agreements."
Regardless of whether the duo stays or leaves, according to Lynch, it will have profound consequences for transatlantic relations.

FBI changes its mind: Saudi student who helped terrorists was a spy
Saudi student Omar al-Bayoumi helped two of the al-Qaeda terrorists behind the 9/11 attacks when they came to the United States in early 2000. The United States and Saudi Arabia have claimed he was unaware of their intentions, but new FBI documents confirm that he was in fact a Saudi spy. That according to the non-profit review editor Pro Publica.
The documents state that Bayoumi worked on behalf of Saudi intelligence and reported to the country's ambassador in Washington. According to the site, the information has become a central part of the protracted legal process surrounding Saudi Arabia's role in the terrorist attacks more than 20 years ago.
Relatives of the victims argue through their lawyers that the new evidence contradicts the previous claims from Saudi Arabia to such an extent that permission should be granted to seek more information about Bayoumi and another person who allegedly helped the plane makers.
