Britain begins evacuating Britons from Sudan
Britain is today beginning the evacuation of the 4,000 British citizens who are in Sudan, British media reports. The announcement comes after the warring parties, the army and the paramilitary RSF, agreed on a three-day ceasefire.
"We have started contacting citizens directly and providing routes for departure out of the country," writes British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly on Twitter.
The British government has recently been criticized for abandoning its citizens in Sudan while other countries evacuated theirs.

Details: Shooting in Khartoum despite ceasefire
Gunfire has been heard in Sudan's capital Khartoum during the morning, according to sources for Ekot.
This despite the fact that a three-day ceasefire was initiated between the army and the paramilitary group RSF at midnight.
According to official sources, however, the truce is being held and the information to Ekot is not confirmed in other media.
Fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF militia broke out last weekend. Previous attempts at a ceasefire have failed. Leaders of both groups claim to lead the country.
WHO warns after polio lab taken over in Sudan
The World Health Organization WHO warns of an "extremely dangerous" situation in Sudan after fighters took control of a lab in the country, reports AFP.
According to the WHO, disease samples from, among other things, polio and measles are kept at the lab.
- There is a huge biological risk associated with the occupation of the central lab, says the WHO representative in Sudan, Nima Saeed Abid, to the news agency.
The WHO has not announced which of the warring parties occupied the lab.
At midnight, a 72-hour ceasefire began in Sudan.
