Sources: The Iranian Navy took over the ship in retaliation
The fact that Iran seized an oil tanker on its way to the United States on Thursday is probably revenge for the American authorities' seizure of a ship with Iranian crude oil last week. This is reported by the Financial Times with reference to three sources.
It was last week that the ship Suez Rajan, flagged in the Marshall Islands, reportedly changed course towards the United States instead of China. Since the company that owns Suez Rajan is listed on the American stock exchange, trade in Iranian oil violates US sanctions against Iran.
The Iranian navy reportedly tried to follow the ship, but failed.
The oil tanker Advantage Sweet was seized on Thursday afternoon near the Strait of Hormuz, according to the US, it happened in international waters.
