The conflict over Western Sahara
Morocco's king hopes for better relations with Algeria
Morocco's King Mohammed VI extends a hand to neighboring Algeria to strengthen the relationship between them, writes Reuters.
- I pray to God that things will return to normal and that the borders between the two neighboring sister countries will be opened, says the king in a speech.
The border has been closed for 29 years and all previous attempts by Morocco to open it have failed.
At the center is the conflict over Western Sahara, which Morocco claims.
On the other side is the Front Polisiaro, a liberation movement that wants to make Western Sahara its own country and is supported by Algeria.

The Dominican Republic takes Morocco's side in the conflict
The Dominican Republic is taking Morocco's side and now recognizes the country's right to Western Sahara, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday. More and more countries are taking Morocco's side, even if progress is slow, writes Reuters.
On the other side is the liberation movement Front Polisiaro, which wants to make Western Sahara its own state. The conflict has created disunity in the region and Morocco's relationship with several neighboring countries has deteriorated, especially the one with Algeria.
According to the news agency, Morocco's most important foreign policy goal is to get increased support in the Western Sahara issue. So far, 28 states have opened consulates in the area, mainly Arab and African states. Recently, Israel joined the countries that recognize Morocco's right to the area.
