Trump's billion-dollar lawsuit against CNN is dismissed: No violation of the law
A federal court dismisses Donald Trump's lawsuit against CNN, which he accused of defamation, reports Reuters.
The former American president had demanded over five billion kroner in compensation for the television channel comparing him to Adolf Hitler, and claimed that, like the German dictator, he tried to push through a "big lie" at the end of his presidency.
It was in the television channel's reporting on Donald Trump's attempt to annul the election results that CNN compared Trump's actions to Adolf Hitler's before and during the Second World War.
Hitler himself coined the term "the big lie" and defined it in his book "Mein Kampf" as an untruth people will believe if it is only repeated enough times.
"While CNN's statements were repugnant, they were not, in the legal sense, defamatory," reasoned Judge Raag Singhal.
Trump's spokesperson, Steven Cheung states in a statement that "CNN will be held accountable for its treatment of Trump and his supporters".
