Russian invasion The world's response

Norway tops Sweden – doubles contribution to Ukraine

Norway will contribute almost twice as much as Sweden to Ukraine. Both this year and in 2026, Norway will give 85 billion Norwegian kronor to Ukraine, Norwegian media reports.

TV4 Nyheterna reported earlier today that Sweden has given 48.5 billion kronor in civilian and military support this year. And since the invasion started in 2022, a total of almost 100 billion has gone to Ukraine.

– That is a very high amount. That brings the support to Ukraine to a total of 275 billion kronor, says Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre when he visited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj on Monday.

Sweden gives 750 million to Ukraine's state budget

Sweden will give 750 million to Ukraine to cover the financing gap in the country's state budget, says Minister of Development Cooperation Benjamin Dousa (M) for TV4 Nyheterna.

This is the first time an EU country has given direct budget support to Ukraine. Ukraine can decide what they want to do with the money, but Dousa has set certain requirements.

- We will always ensure that the money does not go to corruption and that Ukraine takes the reforms that are currently being pushed for seriously and continues to become even more democratic and move even closer to the EU, he tells TV4.

Sweden signs new agreement with Ukraine on equipment

Sweden and Ukraine have signed a declaration of intent to jointly produce defense equipment for Ukraine in Sweden, the government says. Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) signed the agreement in connection with a visit to Kyiv on Saturday.

“With the declaration of intent, we want to strengthen the Swedish and Ukrainian rearmament,” he says in a statement.

Romania, Poland and Denmark are already helping Ukraine in similar ways.
