Trump refuses to walk in Baltimore: "It's hell"
Donald Trump is turning down an invitation from Democratic Maryland Governor Wes Moore to take a walk together in Baltimore, one of several cities that have fallen into the president's crosshairs recently.
According to CNN, Trump says he can imagine taking a walk on the city's streets when it is "cleaned up" of crime.
- Baltimore is hell.
Trump has said he may send the National Guard to the city, in the same way he did in Washington DC.
Trump's federal actions — that's the point
- Donald Trump took federal control of the police in Washington DC and called in 800 soldiers from the National Guard to fight crime.
- The measures were justified by claims of increasing crime and homelessness, despite official statistics showing that violent crime is at its lowest level in 30 years.
- The decisions were met with protests from residents and criticism from Mayor Muriel Bowser, who called the intervention a threat to the city's autonomy.
- Trump has suggested that similar federal efforts could be implemented in other major cities such as Chicago and New York, drawing criticism of abuse of power from local leaders.
