Bombed the Kerch Bridge in 2022 – eight get life sentences

Eight people have been sentenced to life in prison for a bomb attack on the Kerch Bridge in 2022, AFP reports, citing a Russian military court.

The bridge connects the annexed peninsula with Russia and was attacked with bombs transported in a truck. TT has previously reported that five of them are Russians and that the rest were from Armenia and Ukraine.

Five people died in the attack, for which Kyiv later claimed responsibility. The attack occurred just eight months after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, AFP writes.

Analysis: Russian State Media’s Cap on Peace Talks

Coverage of the renewed attempts at peace in Ukraine has been sparse in Russian state media, writes Anastasia Tenisheva in an analysis in the Moscow Times.

When the negotiations are brought up, it is with a clear pro-Russian frame, she explains.

“A presenter on Rossia 24 said that ‘Europe is putting a brake’ on the peace process, referring to European leaders’ criticism that the White House’s original 28-point plan was heavily in Moscow’s favor.”

On several occasions, the American-led negotiations of recent weeks have been mentioned in passing, often well into broadcasts. Then they often appear after features about, for example, Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Kyrgyzstan, Tenisheva writes.
