Russia is flexing its nuclear muscles.

In a new music video, the country threatens to fire "Son of Satan".

- It is completely grotesque that strategic nuclear weapons are glorified, says Joakim Paasikivi, lieutenant colonel and teacher of military strategy at the Defense Academy in Stockholm.

The pop video featuring the military-clad singer came out just a few days ago and takes the viewer from factory floors, across the Ural Mountains, stopping at a military band and lingering at launch pads.

The song is a tribute to the gigantic Sarmat missile, also known as "Son of Satan" or "Satan II" for its incredible mass destruction capability.

The music video was posted on the site parkpatriot.media, the part of the Russian Ministry of Defense that focuses on propaganda. It opens with accordion and balalaika playing and paints a scenario where the US and NATO are completely wiped out by a nuclear attack.

- They rattle around with nuclear weapons. The text does not say the United States. They say statushki, the United States of America. So the text also demeans that "we" are strong, but the West is weak. It is extremely unpleasant, says Joakim Paasikivi in Aftonbladet's TV program "Krigsrapporten".

There is not a word about Ukraine in the lyrics and no images in the video seem to allude to the war there.

- In Russia, they claim that they have a special military operation in Ukraine and that it is a defense, because NATO and the West have started a war in Russia. To explain to the Russian people why there are sanctions, why they are worse off, why their soldiers are dying in Ukraine... well, it's the West's fault. Russia must constantly project the image that it is the West or the United States that is threatening. Then you choose for the day whether it is the USA, NATO, Sweden, Finland, Anglo-Saxons, Satanists or Nazis who threaten.

- In the propaganda, you have the threat against Russia that you build up and then the nuclear defense is an extremely unpleasant rhetoric that runs through Russian state television and the media as well, says Joakim Paasikivi.

Russia is said to have the world's largest arsenal of tactical nuclear weapons, and Putin said as recently as September that he had no hesitation in using them.

Former President Dimitrij Medvedev recently told Business Insider:

- For obvious reasons, Russia has not used the full arsenal of possible weapons, equipment and ammunition yet and has not attacked all possible enemy targets in populated areas. And not depending on our inherent humanity. Everything has its time.
