Brexit The future of Great Britain
Johnson and Truss are expected to vote no to the Brexit deal
The
two former British Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss are
today expected to vote no to the current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's
proposal for an agreement on how the EU and Great Britain should handle
the issue of Northern Ireland, British media reports. The
proposal, which goes by the name "Windsor Agreement", was approved by
Sunak and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the end
of February.
According
to Svenska Yle, the agreement contains, among other things, points that
there will be no hard borders for the island of Ireland, that Northern
Ireland's legislative assembly gets more power in certain matters and
that special files are introduced for goods going to Northern Ireland and to Ireland and the EU.
The Democratic Unionist Party is unhappy with some parts of the agreement, but it is expected to be voted through after all. The Northern Irish voters are positive about the agreement, according to a survey that The Guardian writes.
