At least 21 dead as tornado sweeps across Mississippi
At least 21 people have died in a tornado in the US state of Mississippi, reports CNN. The two communities of Silver City and Rolling Fork have been hit hard - the latter of which is described as "completely gone".
- I have never seen anything like it, says Rolling Fork resident Brandy Showah to the television channel.
The tornado moved in late on Friday evening local time, which is said to have been extra dangerous as many may have been sleeping. The authorities do not yet have a handle on exactly how extensive the damage is. But there are numerous reports of fallen trees, extensive power outages and extensive material damage.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, eleven tornadoes have moved across Mississippi and Alabama in the past 24 hours alone.

Gandhi vows to continue fighting: "I am not afraid"
Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi vows to continue fighting for democracy in India despite being suspended from parliament on Friday, reports AFP. According to Gandhi, he is being stopped because his party, the Congress Party, demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's relationship with controversial businessman Gautam Adani be investigated.
- They are used to everyone being afraid of them, but I am not afraid, Gandhi said, taking aim at Modi's ruling BJP party.
Gandhi was suspended from parliament after he was convicted earlier this week of defamation for remarks he made about Modi during the 2019 election campaign.
