US airlines face 'tsunami of retirements' US airlines are about to be hit by a "tsunami of pilot retirements" that will fuel the current shortage, CNN reports.
As a consequence, the number of flights is at risk of decreasing while the prices of travel are being pushed up, a trade association for the congress states.
- The lack of pilots has resulted in a collapse of air traffic, said the organization's CEO Faye Malarkey Black during a hearing on Wednesday.
Over half of all working pilots will reach 65, which is the industry's mandatory retirement age, in the next 15 years. The younger pilots are not enough to fill the gap.

Florida's "Don't say gay" law is extended to all grades
The controversial law that bans parts of sex education in Florida schools will go into effect in all grades, AP reports.
The law, which critics call "Don't say gay", prohibits teachers from teaching children about sexual orientation and identity. Students as old as 17 will be covered by the law. Previously, it only applied to children in preschool and students up to grade three.
That the law is extended is at the request of Governor Ron DeSantis, who is expected to challenge Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination.
Critics believe that the law marginalizes LGBTQ people. President Joe Biden has called it "hateful".

SD members: Bildt's support for China is worrying
M profile Carl Bildt's statement that the EU should not support Taiwanese independence is ominous. That's what Sweden Democrats' Aron Emilsson and Markus Wiechel write on Expressen's debate page.
France's Emmanuel Macron has made similar statements that the EU should refrain from taking a position on the issue. But the writers believe that Sweden, like the United States, should stand behind Taiwan in the matter instead of indirectly supporting China.
"Western democracies including Taiwan need to cooperate more in light of the threats from the aggressive dictatorships, not less," write Emilsson and Wiechel.
