Therefore, the Democrats do NOT want to stop Trump

Republicans claim that the indictment against Donald Trump is politically motivated to prevent him from running for president next year.

But imagine if it's just the opposite.

Whether or not Donald Trump deserves to be indicted is impossible to judge until the indictments are made public. Which takes place amid great uproar on Tuesday evening Swedish time.

Still, a united Republican vocal chorus has voiced their anger and disgust at the indictment. The summary judgment before they have even seen the indictment is about revenge and political persecution. The proof of this is that District Attorney Alvin Bragg is a Democrat and therefore by definition hostile to Trump.

The heavy-handed Republican politicians seem to completely ignore the fact that most high legal positions in the United States are appointed in general elections. In other words, the United States is full of even Republican district attorneys without parity representatives claiming for that matter that their prosecutions are politically motivated.

Even the American people already have a cemented opinion on whether it is right to impeach Trump or not.

According to a poll conducted by the television company ABC, 32 percent think it is wrong to prosecute Trump, while 45 think it is right.

It is unclear what they base these cross-certain judgments on. Maybe it's about the sense of putting a former US president on trial at all.

Both Trump personally and Republicans in general assume that there is some kind of Democratic conspiracy to try at all costs to stop the real estate billionaire from being able to stand for election in 2024.

At the same time, the same people claim that the consequence of the indictment and all other "witch hunts" that the Democrats engage in is that it strengthens Trump's position.

The money is pouring in

Since it became known that Trump would be indicted, contributions to the ex-president's election campaign have plummeted. Over SEK 40 million in just the first 24 hours.

In addition, Trump is ahead in the opinion polls.

In other words, if there is a democratic conspiracy, it is extraordinarily ineffective and incompetent because it seems to defeat its purpose; to prevent Trump from running.

In fact, could it not be that there is no conspiracy and that the Democratic Party does not mind at all if Donald Trump becomes the one to challenge Joe Biden.

I see several reasons for that.

      * Joe Biden has already shown that he can beat Donald Trump and quite seriously. His victory in the 2020 presidential election was significantly larger and more convincing than Donald Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Biden has not yet announced whether he will run in 2024 or not, but a strong motivation for him to do so is that he considers himself best suited to once again prevent Trump from another stay in the White House.

      * Donald Trump is still popular among his core voters, but outside that group he is increasingly appearing as a pre-president. Many within their own party are fed up with his rants about electoral fraud and would rather see the party nominate another candidate. The Democrats know where they have Trump, but if it turns out to be someone else, things will be in a completely different situation. It may be significantly more difficult for Joe Biden to beat Ron DeSantis, Mike Pence or Mike Pompeo.

Serious black on the foot

      * Joe Biden turns 82 this election year. There is already a lot of speculation about how capable he really is of doing his job. Trump certainly appears much younger, but he still turns 76 next year. Should the Republicans nominate a significantly younger candidate, all of whom are now considered to have a chance of being nominated are significantly younger than Trump, the contrast against Biden will be great. An elderly Biden who stumbles around both on stage and on his words against a much younger opponent can be a serious blow to the sitting president's chances.

What is happening now undeniably looks to favor Trump. He will probably once again dominate the media space in the US for quite some time. This after having led a rather waning existence for the past two years.

It probably increases his chances of becoming the party's presidential candidate when the primaries are decided early next year. There, it is dedicated, staunchly conservative Republicans who tend to dominate those who vote. Trump's core voters will vote heavily.

In that case, the Democrats get what I think they want. Trump will be the Republican nominee in 2024.

In that situation, he may also have a number of other charges pending against him for crimes that appear to be significantly more serious than the payment to a porn star.

       * His attempt to influence the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in the state of Georgia where Trump in a phone call pressured the returning officer to find enough votes for Trump to win.

       * The ex-president's move to take several hundred classified documents with him when he left the White House.

*Perhaps most serious of all is what has emerged in a series of public testimony hearings in Congress about Trump's role in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Say there are prosecutions in just one or two of these cases. Then the Republicans still have a presidential candidate suspected of serious crimes who must attract millions of extra votes from a wide range of the American population.

It should be the pure dream of the Democrats and Joe Biden.
