The drone alarm in the US
Mysterious drones over the US worry the population

In recent weeks, several residents of the state of New Jersey in the United States have sounded the alarm that they have seen mysterious drones in the air. The local media's reporting combined with a large spread on social media has led to wild speculation, writes AFP.

Neither the military nor local politicians have given any explanation for what drones are. Governor Phil Murphy has urged calm but many are still worried.

- It is quite worrying that they have been seen without explanation. It feels alarming, says 23-year-old Sam Lugo, who has seen several of the drones.

The Pentagon has hit back at rumors that the drones come from a foreign power. At the same time, the US Department of Defense has said that the drones do not belong to the military.
