Chaos during the vote in parliament – PPP demands the resignation of the speaker
There was a fight and protest in the South Korean parliament in connection with the vote on the impeachment process against acting president Han Duck-Soo, several media outlets report. Politicians from the ruling PPP party chose not to vote, which led to the result of the vote being 192 votes in favor and zero against.
Several politicians also approached Speaker Woo Won-Shik and shouted that the vote was invalid. There were also calls for his resignation. Among other things, they were dissatisfied with the fact that the impeachment motion only required a simple majority and not a two-thirds majority to be voted through.
Han Duck-Soo says he accepts the parliament's vote. Finance Minister Choi Sang-Mok is now taking over the role of president.
