Many airlines cancel all flights to the Middle East
A long list of airlines are canceling all flights to several destinations in the Middle East for security reasons. This is reported by Reuters.
Five times as many missiles were fired in the region in November this year compared to a year ago, according to the aviation website Aviation A2Z.
Among the 26 companies in Reuters' compilation, most are stopping their flights to Tel Aviv and/or Beirut. Some, like Air France-KLM, for a few days ahead, and others, like Cathay Pacific and Fly Dubai, for most of 2025.
Pilots from several airlines are expressing concerns about safety, according to Aviation A2Z. With the support of their unions, they are demanding increased transparency about the risks and that crews be given the right to refuse routes based on safety assessments, something that Lufthansa, for example, allows.

Airplanes in missile rain: “Control tower could only wish pilots good luck”
While many other airlines cancel all flights to Beirut and Tel Aviv due to the risk of shelling, Lebanon’s Middle East Airlines, MEA and Israel’s El Al continue to fly.
The pilots saw the missile rain from the cockpit when an Air France flight was caught in the middle of Iran’s lightning attack on Israel on October 1, according to Al Jazeera:
“The control tower could only wish them good luck.”
In more expected tense situations, routes are often rerouted, but it is easy for airspace and airports to become congested and for some routes there are simply no alternatives, aviation consultant Andrew Carlton told the channel.
