Three tourists dead after hotel fire in Bangkok
Three people have died and seven have been injured after a fire broke out at a hotel in the Thai capital Bangkok, local media report. The three dead – a woman and two men – are all tourists, but they have not yet been identified.
According to witnesses, the fire started in a room on the fifth floor of the Ember Hotel in the Phra Nakhon district on Sunday evening. About 40 guests were in the hotel at the time, and several of them were evacuated from the building's roof.
The injured are from Thailand, Germany and China, as well as a woman whose nationality has not been determined.
The Phra Nakhon district is a popular tourist area in the city, including for backpackers.
Swedish Lina lives at the fire-ravaged hotel: "Chaos"
Swedish Lina Lindfors lives opposite the hotel that was ravaged by fire in Bangkok on Sunday evening. She tells TV4 Nyheterna that she saw people on the street and on the hotel roof, and how rescue workers sent elevators up to help people.
She describes the atmosphere during the evening as chaotic.
– It was terrible to see.
