Murdered CEO in New York
Analysis: "The hot assassin" has become a folk hero
Luigi Mangione, who is suspected of having shot dead the CEO of a health insurance company in New York, seems to have become something of a folk hero in parts of American society, writes Vanessa Friedman in an analysis in The Guardian.
According to her, many Americans have begun to hail the suspected killer as "the hot assassin".
"He has become what the historian Eric Hobsbawm calls 'a social bandit' - a man who seems to stand up against an unjust system."
In the Washington Post, Philip Kennicott writes that Mangione's beautiful exterior and social pathos mean that many do not seem to want to see him as a suspected murderer.
"The accolades for him seem to bridge political divides and are worrying for insurance companies, which suddenly seem to be deeply hated."
