Trump's victory
The tech giants funnel millions to Trump: "Must keep up."

None of the tech pampas in Silicon Valley seem to want to be worse than anyone else when it comes to donating to Donald Trump.

On Friday, Open AI CEO Sam Altman announced that he plans to make a $1 million donation to the president-elect's installation fund, AP reports.

"Trump will lead our country into an age of AI, and I am eager to support his efforts to ensure America stays ahead," Altman wrote in a statement.

The announcement comes just one day after Meta's Mark Zuckerberg and Amazon announced that they will inject an equal amount each into the fund. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos also has a meeting scheduled with Trump next week.

Still, none of them come close to Elon Musk, who has spent a whopping $260 million on Trump's presidential campaign, according to CNN.

New images: Russia appears to be packing up on a base in Syria

Russia appears to be about to take military material out of the Hmeimim air base in Syria, writes the Financial Times based on newly released satellite images.

Among other things, several large transport planes have reportedly landed at the airport and anti-aircraft systems have been dismantled. Helicopters are also being prepared for transport, writes the Washington Post.

It is not clear whether Russia plans to completely leave the country after the fall of the Syrian regime or whether it is a matter of reducing its presence in the country.

- It is too early to say, says Russia expert Michael Kofman to the FT.

The air base in Hmeimim and the naval base in Tartus are strategically important for Russia as they are used as logistical hubs for military activities in other parts of the world.

Sources: Not even his brother was told about the escape plans

Bashar al-Assad left Syria for Russia without notifying colleagues and some relatives, a dozen sources told Reuters. Just hours before the regime fell, he is said to have gathered a large number of high-ranking army officials and assured them that military support was on the way.

His media adviser was reportedly called in to write a speech for the president, but she could not find him. According to the sources, al-Assad told his colleagues late on Saturday night that he was going home. Instead, he left work to go to the airport.
