IDF confirms hospital attack – five journalists killed
At least 20 people have been killed in an Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital, the largest hospital in southern Gaza, Hamas-controlled authorities say. Five Palestinian journalists are among the dead, according to the AP.
Video journalist Mariam Dagga, who used to freelance for the AP, is one of the victims. Another of those killed, cameraman Hussam al-Masri, worked for Reuters. Al Jazeera cameraman Mohammad Salam was also killed in the attack.
After several hours of silence, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed at noon that it had carried out attacks on the hospital. It promised to investigate the incident.
“The IDF regrets any harm caused to innocent individuals and does not specifically target journalists,” the IDF wrote, continuing to claim that it is doing everything it can to reduce the number of civilian casualties.
Israel has previously defended its hospital bombings by saying that Hamas militants are hiding in the hospitals, without presenting any evidence, writes AP. At least 192 journalists have been killed during the Gaza war, according to the American organization CPJ.
IDF leaders criticize the invasion of Gaza City
Several Israeli military leaders, including IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, are appealing to Benjamin Netanyahu and the country's government to agree with Hamas on a ceasefire, reports Haaretz.
Carrying out the announced invasion of Gaza City could lead to the death of the hostages, say several army leaders, who instead advocate a negotiated solution - now that they have the upper hand.
- Netanyahu, it is time to act according to the will of the people. Do not continue this endless war. Do not sacrifice the hostages, our soldiers and Israeli civilians, says Eyal Zamin during a meeting with the security cabinet.

The Israeli military wrote in a statement that it “regrets any harm to outsiders” and that it did not intentionally attack journalists. The incident will be investigated, according to the country’s defense forces.
