Trump's USA

Border issue
Lawyer furious after new arrest: "Wants to punish"

Kilmar Ábrego García, who received a lot of attention when he was wrongly deported from the US to El Salvador, has been arrested again by the US immigration agency ICE after just a couple of days on the loose. This is stated by his lawyer according to several media outlets.

The arrest took place after he appeared for questioning in Baltimore, writes CNN. According to lawyer Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, it was expected that he would be arrested.

- The only reason they deprived him of his liberty is because they want to punish him, he tells CBS News.

The legal battles surrounding the 30-year-old have been numerous. This spring, he was deported to El Salvador despite having been granted a form of residence permit in the US due to threats from criminals in his home country. He has since been accused of human smuggling and threatened with deportation to Costa Rica, and most recently Uganda, with which the US recently signed a migration agreement.

He has been alleged to be a member of the notorious M-13 gang, which he has consistently denied.

Raid against Bolton
The stomach crack grows: Trump threatens with “Bridgegate”

Donald Trump is threatening to investigate Republican Governor Chris Christie for a 13-year-old political scandal, reports the New York Times. The move comes after the former Trump friend criticized the president and the raid on the home of former national security adviser John Bolton.

Christie says Trump “doesn’t care” about separating the White House from the judiciary, prompting the president to vent his anger on Truth Social:

“Chris refused to take responsibility for his criminal actions. For the sake of justice, maybe we should start looking at this very serious situation again? No one is above the law!”

The scandal in question, dubbed “Bridgegate,” concerns a 2013 incident in which Christie is accused of closing large sections of a major New York bridge during rush hour, causing 24-hour traffic jams, for his own political gain.

Criticism grows against Bolton raid: "Authoritarian"

Criticism of the FBI raid on former national security adviser John Bolton is growing in the US.

The move "should be a wake-up call for all Americans," say Norman Eisen and Andrew Warren, who sit on the board of a democracy-promoting organization.

"This escalation of the Trump administration's use of the legal system to target political opponents is a dangerous new front for American authoritarianism," they write on MSNBC.

The president has consistently denied knowledge of the operation against Bolton, who was a vocal Trump critic. The reason for the search was given as illegal handling of classified information.

The Wall Street Journal editorial board writes in an opinion piece that Donald Trump “seems to believe he can use his power to carry out acts of revenge”.

“We said this was one of the risks of a second term for Trump, and it turns out to be worse than we thought”, the newspaper writes.

Bolton Raid— That’s the Matter

  • The FBI has searched former national security adviser John Bolton’s home in Maryland.
  • The investigation was into allegations of illegal handling and possession of classified information from Bolton’s time in the White House.
  • The FBI also searched the building where Bolton has his office as part of the investigation into classified documents.
  • John Bolton has not been arrested or formally charged with a crime, and neither the White House nor Bolton's legal counsel have commented on the incident.
  • Donald Trump stated that he was not informed in advance of the raid and emphasized that he had instructed authorities not to give him such information.
