At least 33 people have died in the extensive floods that have hit southern Thailand.

A state of emergency has been declared in Songkhla province since Tuesday, in anticipation of more rain.

According to authorities, more than 1,200 people have been evacuated. In several areas, the water reaches up to the waist and many cannot get to the rescue from their homes and hotels.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has promised that more boats and trucks will be deployed in the rescue work.
