Israeli Defense Minister: We Will Never Leave Gaza
Israeli military will remain in the Gaza Strip, Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a speech on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
In the ceasefire agreement that Israel signed with Hamas in October, the country promised to gradually withdraw its troops from the area and eventually leave it completely.
“We are deep inside Gaza and we will never leave Gaza completely. That will never happen,” Katz said.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not commented on the statement.
Israel Katz backs off statement on Gaza
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz is backs off his statement that the country will build settlements in the Gaza Strip and thus not leave, the Times of Israel reports.
In a new statement, his office writes:
“The government has no intention of building settlements in the Gaza Strip, the comments he made at the meeting in Beit El were solely about security issues.”
The previous move had constituted a violation of the ceasefire that had been negotiated.
