Porcelain makers were appalled.

What is Macron's luxurious ashtray doing on Vinted?

Now the president's porcelain manager is suspected of theft.

Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron's staff was alerted that valuable porcelain and silver cutlery had disappeared from the Elysée Palace.

Some of the objects are considered part of the national cultural heritage. The value of the goods is estimated at approximately 40,000 euros, around 430,000 kronor.

Most of it comes from France's state porcelain factory, Sèvres. The factory is internationally renowned for its exclusive porcelain and has been owned by the French state since 1759.

And it was the factory staff who sensed trouble when Macron's valuable items suddenly appeared on Vinted and auction sites.

More thefts planned

After the alarm from the porcelain factory, the police began questioning staff at Macron's residence, the Elysée Palace.

Last week, three people were arrested – including the employee responsible for the palace's porcelain.

On his Vinted account, the person had posted ads for a plate with the French Air Force stamp and several ashtrays from Sèvres.

A search of the house by police later found around 100 items. In addition to Sèvres porcelain, there was a statuette by the artist René Lalique, champagne flutes from the luxury company Baccarat and several copper saucepans.

According to The Guardian, the prosecutor also said that inventory notes made by the porcelain boss “gave the impression that he was planning future thefts”.

The arrested trio will stand trial on February 26. The items have been returned to the Elysée Palace.
