Hope after ruling against settlers in Bethlehem: “Never give up the fight”
Palestinian Alice Kisiya has won an important victory in an Israeli court – against the Israeli settlers who occupied her family’s land in the Christian village of al-Makhrour outside Bethlehem. Al Jazeera reports. Yesterday she visited the site for the first time since 2019.
– This victory, which has forced the settlers to dismantle their outpost and leave, confirms that one should never give up the fight, Alice Kisiya told the TV channel.
After several years of court proceedings, the court rejected the ownership documents presented by the settlers as false, and ruled that the Kisiya family are the rightful owners of the land.
Now the settlers have occupied another piece of land belonging to relatives of the family, and the fight in the courts continues.
14 countries condemn Israel's plans for new settlements
A group of 14 countries, mostly European, are urging Israel to withdraw plans for 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank. Reuters reports.
"We would like to recall that this part of the escalation of settlements in the West Bank violates international law and risks increasing instability," they wrote in a statement about the plans published on Monday.
The countries are Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Malta, the Netherlands, Spain, Iceland, Norway and Denmark.
