Trump's USA The war on the media

Stopped feature on “60 Minutes” spreads on social media

A feature that was supposed to be broadcast on Sunday’s “60 Minutes” but was stopped by CBS News’ editor-in-chief shortly before the broadcast has been leaked online, several media outlets report. This after the original feature was briefly available on the Canadian streaming platform Global TV.

The feature is about the Cecot prison, where the Trump administration has sent Venezuelan migrants, and about reports that there are “brutal and torture-like” conditions there.

When the feature was stopped, editor-in-chief Bari Weiss explained that it did not advance the story and that the Trump administration had not responded to the allegations being made, Reuters reports. But several employees believe that it is a matter of political censorship.

Anger at CBS: Has given Trump a kill switch

There is great anger at CBS News after the media company stopped a review in "60 Minutes" at the last minute, several media outlets write. The feature was supposed to be about the Cecot prison, where the Trump administration has sent Venezuelan migrants, but was stopped at the last minute.

Political, say several employees at the channel.

"If refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to stop a report, we have effectively given them a 'kill switch' for any reporting they find inconvenient," writes reporter Sharyn Alfonsi in an email according to American media.

According to editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, the feature was stopped because it "wasn't ready" for publication as it did not advance the story and the Trump administration had not responded to the allegations raised.
