Venezuelan leader: Enough with orders from Washington

Venezuelan interim president Delcy Rodríguez says she has had enough of orders from Washington, reports AFP.

– Let Venezuelan politics resolve our differences and internal conflicts. Enough with foreign powers, Rodríguez said during a speech to oil workers on Sunday.

Rodríguez took over the government after the American operation that captured President Nicolás Maduro. She has opened up for reforms and said she is willing to find diplomatic solutions with the United States.

US President Donald Trump, for his part, has said that the United States will rule Venezuela for many years, and that the United States will sell Venezuelan oil.

Iran warns the US of attacks with new poster

Iran has put up a new large poster in central Tehran on a destroyed American aircraft carrier, several media outlets report.

This is happening at the same time as tensions between the US and Iran are intensifying and concerns about a large-scale war are increasing.

In one corner of the poster it says: “He who sows wind, reaps storm”, writes The Guardian.

In connection with the extensive protests in Iran, the US redirected the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with its associated battle group to the region. The battle group is expected to arrive in the coming days.

Iran has in turn warned that the slightest attack will be considered a full-scale war.

89 injured by lightning during a demonstration for Bolsonaro

During a demonstration in Brasilia in support of Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro, 89 people were injured by a lightning strike, AFP reports.

The rescue service told the news agency that 47 people had to be taken to hospital and that eleven were seriously injured.

The newspaper Estadão writes that several of the injured were hanging over a metal fence that was struck by lightning.

Thousands of people are reported to have participated in the demonstration held to demand amnesty for Bolsonaro, who was sentenced to 27 years in prison for a coup attempt last year.

Seven dead in plane crash in the USA – airport closed

Seven people died and one was seriously injured when a private plane crashed in Maine, USA on Sunday evening, American media reports. The crash occurred just after the plane took off from the airport in Bangor.

The airport was closed after the accident and now the cause of the crash is to be investigated, reports AP.

A snowstorm has moved in over large parts of the USA and the airport has also been hit by heavy snowfall. It is not clear whether the weather had any direct impact on the accident.
