The Swedish telecom giant Ericsson brings out the big sledgehammer.
1,200 employees in Sweden will be affected in a giant notice, the company writes in a press release.
Around 1,200 positions will disappear from Ericsson in Sweden.
The company states this in a press release.
"Measures are part of existing global initiatives to reduce costs," writes Ericsson.
The reason is said to be a "challenging mobile network market" in 2024 where volumes are believed to decrease.
In addition to a sharp reduction in staff, they must save in other areas. Among other things, by reducing the number of consultants and having fewer offices.
The union: "Seems to be in a hurry"
The company has started negotiations with the unions. According to union representative Per Norlander from Sweden's engineers, there seems to be a certain panic in the company's actions, he tells TT. According to the news agency, he has negotiated layoffs several times over the years, but it is unusual for company management to be this stressed.
- They seem to be in more of a hurry than ever before, he tells TT.
- They have not conveyed a clear picture of what they want, but still launched a figure of how many, says Norlander.
Ericsson's future
The union senses panic: "More urgent than ever before"
Ericsson's management has given a very stressed impression in connection with the announcement that 1,200 of the company's 14,500 positions in Sweden are to be lost. This is what trade union representatives told TT.
- They seem to be in more of a hurry than ever before, says Per Norlander, negotiator for Sweden's Engineers at Ericsson.
He has negotiated many cuts at the company in the past, but now something seems to have happened. This is not how the processes usually look.
- They have not conveyed a clear picture of what they want, but still launched a figure of how many, says Norlander.

Ericsson cuts down – 1,200 positions in Sweden disappear
Ericsson is carrying out staff reductions with 1,200 positions in Sweden, the company writes in a press release.
The telecom giant sees a challenging mobile network market in 2024 with continued reduced volumes.
"In addition to reducing staff, the work to reduce costs covers several areas such as a reduced number of consultants, streamlined processes and fewer offices," writes Ericsson.
CEO Börje Ekholm flagged for cuts in connection with the quarterly report at the end of January. He then described the market as "very difficult".
