Ukrainians hide to avoid fighting: "Paranoid - not going out"  

 

Young men in Ukraine are resorting to extreme measures to avoid being drafted into the army, Politico reports.  

 

28-year-old Artem tells the newspaper that he avoids subway stations and other places where the police check documents and search for gun refusers.  

 

- Some of my friends are more paranoid - they don't go out at all, says Artem.  

 

According to Politico, Ukraine has opened investigations into 9,000 cases where citizens are believed to have attempted to evade military service. The BBC has previously reported that 650,000 Ukrainian men of military age have left the country – in violation of the law.  

 

According to opposition politician Mykola Kniazjytsjyj, politics is in a bind: the army needs more people, but no one wants to fight for deeply unpopular tougher laws against counterfeiters. 

 

- To be completely honest, the mobilization is a hot potato that nobody wants to hold onto, he tells Politico.

Ballistic robots against Kyiv – four injured  

 

Russia has attacked Ukraine's capital Kyiv with ballistic missiles, the US ambassador to the country says, according to Reuters.  

 

Several explosions were heard in the city on Monday morning. At least four people, including a 16-year-old girl, are said to have been injured, writes Kyiv mayor Vitaly Klitschko on Telegram.  

 

Russia has not yet commented on the attacks.

Odessa goes on emergency power - new Russian attacks last night  

 

The power supply in Odessa is severely limited due to the Russian attacks that damaged the energy infrastructure in the region. Reuters reports.  

 

"The situation is still difficult. To reduce the load on the grid, electric transport will not be running today, and industrial use is also limited," writes the power company DTEK on Telegram.  

 

According to the Odessa regional government, the area was again attacked by Russian drones during the night of Monday. One of the drones reportedly hit a power station.
