The hostage situation in the city of Ede in central Netherlands is now over, the Dutch police confirm on X. The last of the hostages was released at 12.30 and the masked perpetrator could be arrested at the same time. He was forced to his knees and the police handcuffed him.
The motive is unclear.
"Currently there are no signs of a terrorist motive," the police wrote earlier today.
A total of four people were taken hostage at a night club at 06:00 on Saturday. Shortly after 11 o'clock, three of them were released. According to Algemeen Dagblad, the young people were crying when they left the venue.
Just over two hours later, two more men left the room with their hands in the air: the last of the hostages and the perpetrator.
A techno party with a 16 age limit took place at the nightclub last night. It ended at 4 a.m. and the alarm came in two hours later, writes De Telegraaf. The man then allegedly came in and threatened to blow up the premises. Over 150 households had to be evacuated, parts of the city were cordoned off and a massive police operation has been ongoing throughout the day.

The mayor of the city of Ede in the Netherlands describes the hostage situation in the city as terrible. On the city's website, René Verhulst writes that his thoughts go out to the families of the hostages.
He notes that many video clips are being shared from the police operation, and urges residents to be careful about what they share.
"The hostages who are now free have the right to peace and privacy. The police also want to be able to carry out their work properly," writes Verhulst.

Witness: Police everywhere and snipers on the roof
Student Lotte had to be evacuated from her home as a precaution after a man took several people hostage at a nightclub in Ede, the Netherlands. The man threatened to blow the place up.
Lotte told Algemeen Dagblad that she saw more and more police around her home, as well as snipers on the roof. She barely had time to get dressed before the emergency services took her away. Now she is safe.
- I just hope that it will be good for everyone, she says.
