Zelenskyi still needs ammunition - but the soldiers want a ride
When the Russian invasion began in February 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy turned down an offer of evacuation with the infamous words "I need ammunition, not fire".
The call echoes louder than ever two years into the war, when Ukraine faces an acute shortage of weapons and ammunition, writes Politico. At the same time, the will to defend among the population has begun to waver, and Ukrainian authorities are now considering whether to force more people to enlist. The news site has previously reported that thousands of young men have left the country in violation of the law to avoid being drafted into the army.
"Without a sufficiently large defense force, Kyiv is likely to use up its available resources at a much higher rate, leading to faster Russian gains in the long term," says defense analyst Konrad Muzyka at Rochan Consulting.

Russia stole the ship - now Ukraine claims to have destroyed it
Ukraine says it hit the Russian landing craft Konstantin Olshansky with a robot, Reuters reports.
- At the moment, the ship is not in combat-ready condition, says a spokesperson for the Ukrainian navy.
Russia allegedly took the ship from Ukraine in connection with the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014.
Russia stated at the beginning of the year that it is pausing the previous plans to dismantle the around 20 Ukrainian ships – including the Konstantin Oslhansky – that it took in connection with the annexation.
During yesterday, Ukraine stated that it had hit several landing craft in the port of Sevastopol.
