Tusk: Pre-war Europe - must invest in our defences
Europe is in a "pre-war period", says Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to Die Welt and several other European media. He thinks it becomes clearer with each passing day.
- I know it sounds devastating, especially for the younger generation, but we have to get used to the fact that a new era has begun, he says.
Tusk believes that Europe has a long way to go when it comes to preparing for what is to come. He urges European countries to invest in their defences.
- We live in the most critical moment since the end of the Second World War.
Russia has stepped up its airstrikes against Ukraine and recently Russian robots violated the airspace of NATO member Poland.

Zelenskyi: Without US support, we are forced to withdraw
Ukraine may have to withdraw its defenses if US military support is not resumed. That's what Volodymyr Zelenskyy says to the Washington Post.
- We are trying to find a way to avoid it, he says.
The issue of additional support has been stuck in the House of Representatives, where Republican Speaker Mike Johnson has refused to hold a vote. Johnson claims to prioritize domestic issues, which has led to an ammunition shortage in Ukraine.
Zelensky says that they were therefore forced to make the defense lines shorter.
- If they are broken, Russia can invade the big cities.

Zelenskyi dismisses several officials close to him
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed several long-time close associates and advisers, AP reports.
Among those dismissed is top adviser Serhiy Sjefir, who has worked with Zelensky since 2019. In addition, he is dismissing three other advisers and two representatives responsible for soldiers' rights and coordinating the work of volunteers.
Why the employees are being fired is not clear, but in recent months Zelenskyy has replaced several officials.
