The spiral scandal in Greenland
Got spiraled against his will: "The Danes' word was law"
Hedvig Frederiksen is one of the thousands of Greenlandic women who had an IUD inserted, against their will, by doctors on the orders of the Danish authorities. She was then 14 years old.
- It was like that when a Danish person said something, their word was law, she tells The Guardian.
She is one of a total of 143 women from Greenland who sued the Danish state for the spiral campaign. They demand the equivalent of SEK 67 million for what they consider to be an abuse of their human rights.
A Danish investigation is to present a report in the case next spring.
At least 4,500 girls and women are believed to have had IUDs inserted between 1966 and 1970. The campaign to limit the Greenlandic population continued for decades thereafter and the death toll is believed to be large.
- I have been embarrassed a lot for many years. I couldn't talk about it, says Hedvig Frederiksen.

The Israel-Hamas war|The reactions
Sources: White House approves military aid to Israel worth several billion dollars
In recent days, the White House has quietly approved sending billions of dollars worth of military aid to Israel, sources told the Washington Post.
According to the information, it is about 1,800 bombs of the MK84 model, which weigh close to a ton, and 500 bombs of the lighter MK82 model. Last week, it was also approved to send 25 fighter planes of the F-35 model.
The announcement comes as many politicians in Washington, including President Joe Biden, are worried about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plans to invade Rafah. However, making the arms support to Israel conditional is not seen as an option, according to the sources.
- We continue to support Israel's right to defend itself, says one of them.
