Political crisis in South Korea

New motion to impeach President Yoon Suk-Yeol

The opposition in South Korea has on Thursday submitted a new motion to impeach President Yoon Suk-Yeol, writes AFP. A vote is to be held in parliament on Saturday morning Swedish time, and the opposition needs the help of eight members from the ruling party to get through its wish to impeach the president.

Ha Dong-Hoon, leader of the ruling PPP party, urges members to cast their vote with "conviction and conscience" in mind on Saturday.

- President Yoon Suk-Yeol can no longer fulfill his duties as president, and it has become clearer and clearer, he says.

New raid against the president - yesterday's attempt stopped

Police have again raided Yoon Suk-Yeol's presidential office in South Korea, reports Yonhap.

It is the second attempt to raid the office since the investigation into Yoon's sudden declaration of military emergency last week.

Yesterday, a similar attempt was stopped by security guards.

Hope that Yoon is convicted: "Want to witness history"

Many of the angry protesters unhappy with President Yoon Suk-Yeol plan to take to the streets again on Saturday, when another impeachment vote is held in parliament. Kim Jae-Hee, 34, hopes the president is impeached.

- I want to witness history. I have many friends who feel the same, she tells AFP.

Part of the dissatisfaction is also directed at the president's failure to take sufficient responsibility in his speeches to the nation for temporarily imposing a state of emergency last week.

- A coup that lasts two seconds is also a coup, says 43-year-old Kim Jin-Hyuk to The Korea Times.
