ICC Chief Justice: Our very existence is threatened
The very existence of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is threatened. That's what chief judge Tomoko Akane says, according to Reuters.
- The court has been subjected to attacks aimed at undermining its legitimacy and ability to deliver justice.
These attacks have included attempts at influence, threats and acts of sabotage, according to Akane.
The ICC has been in turmoil in recent years with the court's arrest warrants against Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu.
Russia, in turn, has issued arrest warrants against ICC judges, Israel has denounced the court as anti-Semitic, and the United States has threatened sanctions.
